Enrichment Curriculum
At Stanground Academy, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom. Our Enrichment Curriculum provides a broad range of purposeful opportunities that enable students to discover new interests, develop their talents, strengthen essential skills and prepare for their future.
Enrichment forms an important part of our wider personal development offer and is designed to support students throughout their journey at the academy. Our provision develops as students progress through each stage of their education: from exploration and skill development in Years 7–10, through focused preparation for GCSE success in Year 11, to independence, leadership and preparation for future pathways in Post-16.
Through these opportunities, we aim to support students to become confident, resilient and responsible young people who can work successfully with others, contribute positively to their community and approach their next steps with ambition.
Our Enrichment Journey
Years 7–10 Enrichment Curriculum
Discover. Connect. Develop.
Students in Years 7–10 have a dedicated enrichment session within the academy week, providing opportunities to explore new interests, develop their talents and participate in experiences beyond the traditional classroom curriculum.
The programme is built around three key pillars:
- Discover & Connect – Developing creativity, curiosity, leadership and practical skills.
- Mind & Body – Promoting physical health, wellbeing, resilience and healthy lifestyles.
- World & Culture – Exploring different cultures, languages, perspectives and communities.
Students can experience a diverse range of activities across areas including STEM, creative arts, sport, music, languages, enterprise, debating, technology, wellbeing and culture.
In addition to the main enrichment pillars, students have the opportunity to select activities from our Outreach Enrichment pillar. These activities all have a cost associated and take place both on and off site. As such, they may extend beyond the 3:45pm published academy day.
- Outreach activities are optional
- These activities involve an additional cost, which will be clearly indicated during the selection process
Choosing an outreach activity does not remove the requirement to select two activities from each of the three main pillars.
The Years 7–10 programme is closely linked to the Skills Builder Framework, supporting students to progressively develop eight essential skills:
Enrichment gives students meaningful opportunities to practise and apply these skills in different contexts. Through working with others, responding to challenges, exploring ideas and taking increasing responsibility, students can build the confidence, independence and resilience needed for success both within and beyond the academy.

Year 11 Intervention Curriculum
Focused. Prepared. Confident. Successful.
As students move into Year 11, their timetabled enrichment session transitions into a dedicated Intervention Curriculum designed to support achievement and prepare them for their GCSE examinations.
Using assessment information, coursework progress, mock examination outcomes and teacher recommendations, students are directed towards targeted academic support that responds to their individual needs and areas for development.
Throughout the year, students may benefit from:
- Small-group teaching with subject specialists
- Targeted revision and knowledge retrieval
- Examination practice and exam technique
- Coursework and portfolio support
- Personalised feedback and guidance
- Study skills and independent learning strategies
The programme evolves throughout the academic year, enabling support to be increasingly focused as students approach their final examinations.
Alongside developing subject knowledge, the programme supports students to strengthen their confidence, resilience, organisation and independence, helping them to manage the demands of Year 11 and prepare successfully for their next stage of education, training or employment.

Post-16 Enrichment and Intervention Curriculum
Building confidence. Expanding opportunities. Preparing for the future.
Our Post-16 Enrichment and Intervention Curriculum complements academic study by equipping students with the skills, experiences and confidence needed to succeed beyond Sixth Form.
Throughout Years 12 and 13, students follow a structured programme that supports their development as increasingly independent young adults.

- Leadership and mentoring
- Independent study and revision
- University, apprenticeship and employment preparation
- Targeted academic intervention and examination support
Students are encouraged to develop their independence, communication, leadership, organisation, teamwork and problem-solving while gaining a greater understanding of the opportunities available to them.
Through engagement with employers, workplace experiences, leadership opportunities and preparation for future applications, students are supported to make informed decisions and take confident next steps into higher education, apprenticeships, employment or further training.

Year 7 - 10

Year 11

Students develop their knowledge, independence and resilience while preparing for GCSE examinations and their next steps.
Post-16

Students develop greater independence, explore future pathways and gain the skills and experiences needed for life beyond the academy.
At every stage, our aim is to provide meaningful experiences that help students develop personally as well as academically.
Inclusive Opportunities for Every Student
We believe that personal development and enrichment should be accessible to all.
Our provision is designed to give students opportunities to participate, develop their interests and experience success regardless of their starting point or individual circumstances.
We recognise that some students may experience barriers to participation. Where appropriate, we work with students, families and colleagues to identify these barriers and make reasonable adjustments so that students can engage meaningfully with the opportunities available to them.
Through an inclusive approach to enrichment, we aim to ensure that students feel valued, respected and able to participate fully in academy life.
Broadening Experiences
A key purpose of enrichment is to introduce students to opportunities and experiences that complement their academic education. Students have opportunities to engage with areas including:

These experiences enable students to explore their interests, discover new talents and develop an appreciation of the wider world.
They also provide opportunities for students to meet and work alongside different people, consider different perspectives and develop the confidence to participate positively in their school and wider community.
Preparing Students for Their Future
Our enrichment provision has a clear focus on preparing students for life beyond Stanground Academy.
As students progress through the academy, opportunities increasingly support them to understand their strengths, explore their aspirations and develop the skills they will need for further education, training and employment.
From developing essential skills through the Skills Builder Framework in Years 7–10, to GCSE preparation in Year 11 and careers, work experience and future pathways in Post-16, students are supported to make increasingly informed and ambitious decisions about their future.
