Careers Discussions
What are Future Discussions?
At Stanground Academy, we work with an independent and impartial careers advisor, Liz Duckworth, to ensure that all students—particularly those who may require more specialist support—have access to high-quality guidance as they prepare for their next steps in education, employment, or training.
Impartial advice is embedded throughout our CEIAG programme, including Year 9 options talks and post-16 pathways discussions with students in Years 10 and 11. All students receive a one-to-one careers appointment by Year 11, with additional follow-up support offered in Sixth Form. Targeted one-to-one guidance is also provided for students referred by the Careers Leader, Head of Year, or SENDCo.
This impartial advice service is also available to parents and carers during consultation evenings and key events such as Pathways and Parent Information Evenings, helping to support informed decision-making for each young person's future.
When and where do the Discussions take place?
Students can request to see a careers' advisor by dropping into the Futures Zone in A77.
Our discussions take place in the Futures Zone every Thursday. Students will be informed of their appointment by their tutor at the beginning of that week.
What about Sixth Form?
This service is also available for years 12 and 13, alongside valuable advice and guidance from Niki Reilly at NEACO, our careers lead and sixth form manager.
