Introducing Our New Home Learning Programme
At Stanground Academy, we are committed to providing the highest standard of education and developing our students into independent learners. As part of this commitment, we are excited to launch our new Home Learning Programme. This initiative has been carefully designed to complement classroom learning, strengthen study skills, and prepare students for academic success.
What is Home Learning?
Home Learning refers to tasks assigned to students to complete outside the regular school timetable. These tasks may involve a variety of activities, from online platforms like Sparx to pre-reading materials, designed to reinforce learning, improve independent study skills, and contribute to better academic outcomes.
Our aim is to provide engaging and relevant tasks that help students practice what they’ve learnt in class and prepare for future lessons. To support all learners, we ensure that tasks are tailored to different abilities, and recognition is given not just for high-quality work but also for outstanding effort. Students who may need extra support will receive it, but if they choose not to engage in the tasks, appropriate sanctions will be applied through the correction system.
Academy Library Access
To further support Home Learning, our academy library is open every day until 4.30pm. Students are welcome to use the library’s IT facilities to complete their tasks, with staff available to offer guidance and supervision. This provides a quiet and resource-rich environment where students can focus on their studies.
Home Learning Time Allocations
Each year group has specific time expectations for Home Learning, ensuring that students are completing a balanced workload:
- Year 7 & 8: Students will spend 30 minutes on Sparx Reader, Maths, and Science, with an additional 20 minutes allocated to their Week A and Week B subjects.
- Year 9: Students are expected to dedicate 30 minutes to Sparx Maths, Reader, and Science, as well as 30 minutes on their Week A and Week B subjects.
- Year 10 & 11: Students will spend 45 minutes per subject on their Week A and Week B subjects. This includes core subjects such as English, Maths, and Science, along with their 3 option subjects.
These time allocations are designed to be manageable while ensuring students get the most out of their independent study time.
How to Track Your Child’s Home Learning
We understand how important it is for parents and carers to stay informed about their child’s progress. You can view all assigned Home Learning tasks for your child through your ClassCharts account.
